May. 24th, 2004 04:26 pmI had a thought about something over the weekend (17 hours of alone time will do that to a person).
The church is against gay marriages because it goes against what the bible says. But what I don't get is this: God created man*. God created man's attitudes and all their little quirks. Therefore, by default, God created gays (and everything between gay and straight). Sooooooooooooo....if God made people gay, why is it "wrong" in the eye of the church?
*man being a general term for human beings (PI, I know...but too bad)

Date: 2004-06-11 09:44 am (UTC)That's it exactly. Good ideas.
All religions are based on ideas. Those ideas are based on the writings and interpretations of those writings (done by monks and other dieties). These interpretations are then expounded on by, for the lack of a better term, priests who then interpret those interpretations and convey their interpretations through their teachings. Those being taught then interpret those teachings in a way that allows them to understand what the priest's interpretation meant.
As you can see, it just snowballs from there. This has been going on for THOUSANDS of years, and will continue to do so, until your book that you read today is no longer applicable in those modern times, which leads one to the conclusion that today's bible is just a snowball of the interpretations of the original version.
