Alternative uses for docked ferry

Instead of losing money every day that the ferry is tied "fast" to the terminal dock, why not think "outside the box" for ways to make money with it. If nothing else, one could charge admission so that people who never got to take a ride on it could get to come on board and look around.

A better idea would be to use it as a touring vessel, taking people from one end of Lake Ontario to the other. It could have ports of call in the Niagara River at one end to the St. Lawrence at the other.

On the U.S. side, the population centers at Niagara Falls/Buffalo, Rochester, Oswego/Syracuse and Watertown could be stops. Alternatively, during different time periods, on the Canadian side, stops could include Kingston, Toronto and Hamilton.

One important aspect of the ferry is its ability to carry automobiles.

It could carry tour buses to take passengers into the cities and to sightsee in the surrounding regions.

i really wanted to take it to Toronto.

DAMN rochester for being such a STUPID city filled with IDIOT politicians that can't figure out what to do with a good thing while it's biting them in the collective ass.

The biggest question I had? WHY would Torontonians want to come to ROCHESTER? Yeah, We all want to go to Toronto, but we have nothing that Toronto doesn't.

cheaper shopping. They LOVE coming here because sales tax is 15% there, makes it really annoying and difficult to buy clothing at a decent price. They love our sales tax compared to theirs. Also, they have 15% tax on EVERYTHING, we only have 8% tax on luxury goods. :)

I hadn't thought about that.

Bill Johnson fucked the city with the whole thing though. He was doing it and to hell with you if you thought otherwise.

lol, they're spending that 15% just for the exchange rate... in fact, they would probably pay more in Rochester due to the conversion.

Bill Johnson did a good job during his "reign". Every PERSON is entitled to a mistake here and there be it your congressman, your senator, your dad, your country's President, your state Governor, or even your city's Mayor.

i think it was a good idea, they just didn't promote it enough or make any real effort to put it into practice as a permanent fixture. I would've LOVED to have taken it to toronto, i had a lot of friends there who wanted to take it to rochester, too. the drive time was so intense that the ferry was a godsend.

They didn't think about a LOT of details when they did it. It had a LOT of potential that they never tapped into or never even thought about/considered.

I think there's something about the Ferry ownership that prevents it from travelling between US ports.

If it's one of those great big ferries, they could make a nice restaurant out of it. There is a riverboat in Waco (Waco, Texas, f'cryin' out loud) that is now a restaurant. It putts around the Brazos river a bit, feeds a bunch of people for a lot of money, then putts back to the dock.
