6-8 weeks ago, I began waking up with severe back pains if I woke up on my stomach. I figured out that if I rolled over onto my back/sides when Kim got up to shower, I was fine when I got up. 3 weeks ago, I began getting shooting pains in my back that now would NOT go away when I got up. 2 weeks ago, the lack of sleep, and pain, got to me enough that I went to the local urgent care/after hours clinic to see a doc about it. I was diagnosed with a lower back strain and prescribed Vicodin and Flexeril (pain med, and muscle relaxer). I only took these at night, because that was the only time I was in pain at that point. Unfortunately, they didn't help much, and instead of waking up at 2-3am in pain, I was waking up around 4am in pain.
In talking to a few people here at work, one suggested sleeping with pillows under my knees to reduce the pressure on my back. This actually helped more than the meds did, so I stopped taking them (narcotics like that scare the crap out of me).
3 weeks of 5-6 hours of sleep finally got to me, and I set out to find a new, local doctor. This morning I had an appointment to meet with a PA. After stripping down to my underwear, getting examined, and having x-rays taken, it was concluded that I need to see a chiropractor to see if things can't get re-aligned. Several people told me to go see a chiro, but I wanted to make sure there weren't other, more serious, things going on.
Off to find a chiropractor now. UGH.

Date: 2009-04-23 06:15 pm (UTC)I would press for a referral for an MRI, just to rule out herniated disc(s). With moving, and all the work you've been doing on the house, it's possible that that's the culprit. And no amount of pain meds will help. (I know, I took 23 Aleve and 8 Tylenol in 24 hours, and that did nothing. It took 2 days of being hooked up to IV pain meds and being in a drug induced coma for the pain to start going away)
I hope you're able to get rid of the pain. I know it sucks.
