I'm so annoyed

My truck failed the NYS safety inspection AGAIN (2nd year in a row) because of a leaky rear axle seal. The SAME rear axle seal that went bad last year. Guess what this means! Yup. Something else is wrong that's causing the seals to wear and leak. Bent axle? I really don't know, and from the sounds of it, I'm going to have to go through Ford to get a new one. oh joy!

ARG

I'm so freaking irritated by this right now, I'm half tempted to pay a mechanic to do it for me simply because I don't want to deal with it, but I don't trust mechanics.

I think its the autos... Conspiracy! They are designed to break down so that we have to pay for repairs... The manufacturers are keeping the mechanics in business...

You're partially right.

Cars these days are designed to last 100,000 miles. I learned this in one of my design classes. It revolves mostly around bearings, and trying to keep costs down. Designing for 100,000 miles is cheaper than designing for 200,000 miles, so in order to keep costs down, they cut as many corners as possible.

I know how you feel the only mechanic I trust is my ex bf as funny as that sounds but he cuts me a rate so I guess being an ex comes in handy ;) he barely charges me $20 to change my oil :)

I have a mechanic I trust, but he's in Avon, and I'm just not willing to drive all the way out there (especially now with no inspection sticker) to have work done. I have yet to find a good mechanic where we live now.

Have you tried scraping your knuckled and swearing at it?

What? It works. I swear. :)

Seriously though, sorry to hear this. I kow how irritating this crap can be.

That'll probably be this weekend...

I talked to my g/f's dad and he's thinking it may be a bad bearing, which is much easier to swallow than a bent axle.

BTW, I feel your pain on the mechanic thing. Good ones are VERY hard to find these days. I drive 45 minutes now to one I know and trust. It sucks, but you do what you have to.

I really wish my old guy hadn't retired. He was local and VERY good. :(

I know a good mechanic, but he's down by my parents (and VERY busy...sometimes up to 2 weeks to get stuff done because he's so good). It's a trip I'm just not willing to make.

Aw sheez.

That's the G-rated version of what I said.
