I'm alive folks. Doing well, and alive.

Here's a breif update of the past month or so.

Christmas was crazy. Kim and I had 5 places to be on Christmas day, and didn't get to spend much time at any one place. We even had to push Christmas with her mom to Christmas Eve after church just to fit everyone in. Next year we're doing it differently. Any suggestions? (We have to fit in Christmas with: Kim's Mom, Kim's Dad and Stepmom, My parents, Kim's Aunt, My mom's family, and my dad's family...though we're more than likely cutting out a couple families somehow for next year).

The day after Christmas Kim and I both had off. We THANKFULLY got to sleep in and recover a LITTLE bit (Kim more than I because of my loudmouth brother-in-law). We signed our lease at 3 that day. We worked it well because when we put in our application, they were running a deal for the first month's rent free, and when we signed the lease, we got in for this year's pricing (it's going up ~$20/mo next year, so we save that ~$20/mo for a year).

New Year's Eve was spent at Belhurst Castle in Geneva, NY for Kim's cousin's wedding. It wasn't a bad wedding, though I wasn't impressed with the DJ.

Kim and I have been dog-sitting since the 4th, and will be doing so until this Sunday, the 14th. it's been fun. It's nice being away from my parents for a while, and I think they like it too. The commute to work has been nice because we're less than 10 miles away!

Last Saturday we had a wedding reception to go to out in Syracuse for a family from the islands. That was a good time, though it felt like we were the blacksheep of the night (non-family). They had a REALLY good live band playing all night. The food was "eh", and the seating "system" left quite a bit to be desired.

Once I get back home, it's back to packing and throwing stuff out. 1.5 months left until the move-in. Tick tock tick tock...

There are two ways to nip this gotta-be-everywhere problem in the bud:
1. Draw names between Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and stretch both holidays into two days. Most people have Thursday and Friday off at Thanksgiving, so that gives you two days to play with. Then there's Christmas and Christmas eve. That gives you four days and five families. One day you will have to visit two places on the same day, which is easily do-able. Then next year, you switch holidays - whoever got to see you on Thanksgiving this year gets to see you on Christmas next year.
2. Have "open house" at your place on Christmas. Send invitations with hours you're accepting guests - this includes friends AND family - and make everyone come to you. I did that one year and I loved it! We had a steady parade of people through the door all day long, and had some interesting combinations of guests we'd never have invited together on purpose. It was an all-day party with food and drinks and good company. My daughter was about 3 at the time, and believe me, it was a lot less stressful than trying to drag a little kid all over the countryside, away from all the treasures Santa had brought. My ex voted me down after that one wonderful Christmas day (the jerk.)

Good luck on your move. I'd rather take a beating than have to sort through all my crap.
