Another PGR article.
It really makes me want to cry.
Our current government doesn't understand it.
They'll never FULLY understand it.
They don't have family in the military.
Bush may go "visit" the troops, but he doesn't give a shit. He doesn't give a shit if the soldier he just shook hands with dies tomorrow. He doesn't know one soldier from another.
If he did, we wouldn't be in Iraq. We wouldn't be in Afghanistan. We wouldn't be poking our noses into other people's business.
It nearly brings me to tears knowing that our government just doesn't care.
At least there are people who DO care. People that are doing something to SHOW the soldiers that we do care.
Soldiers are human beings with families to care for them and love them unconditionally, and they should be treated as such.
If you see a soldier anyway, be sure to thank them. They may look at you like you're crazy, but deep down inside, they'll understand.

Date: 2006-11-02 03:45 pm (UTC)I agree with your Iraq comment. I can even factor out the care or not care about soldiers. We shouldn't even have started the whole war based on international treaties and UN rules of when war is justified. It was not.
However, Afghanistan is a different matter. Assuming 9/11 was not some US Gov't plot (that's a whole other issue for some), there is proof that the Taliban supported al Qaeda. We were justified in going in there, but even then Rummy and Bush screwed that one up. Maybe if they sent in 10 times the number of troops, they might have contained the Taliban and al Qaeda in there. Like I said, incompetent leadership.
I really like what the PGR is doing. I have a lot of admiration and respect for what they are doing.
