I'm sorry, but when the grades for a mid-term look like this...it's NOT the students that don't know the material. I think this is a serious reflection on the teacher, without a doubt!

This class has officially destroyed my 4.0 GPA that I carried through 3 levels of CALCULUS!

Yup.

I emailed my advisor and she told me that there's actually a curve added at the end of the quarter. That would have been nice to know!

It's interesting when people, especially college students, blame "non-teaching" styles on the teacher when actually, a student (in college) should apply independent studying to their studying habits. This especially in applied mathematics and sciences.

You can't always assume that what is learned in the classroom will always be on the test. It's best to learn the text and also have supplemental texts when learning upper level mathematics.

It's not like in high school:

"Excuse me, Ms. Teacher, what exactly will be on the test?"

"Well Jimmy, just study your notes and you will do just fine."

That's just it. I DO read the text (it's the only way to learn anything), and it doesn't do any good because what he tests us on is different from what's in the book (the book's ISO drawings are absolutely horrible. I honestly don't know why they even use that book).

I hear ya. When I was a math major at Nazareth, I believe I made use of 2 to 4 different books for each upper level math class.

Grab an REA book to help test you. Also, go to the math lab and see if there are other texts to learn from that teach identical material.

If you need to, I can lend you my REA books. I have one for both Calculus and Advanced Calculus.

I took my calculus already. A's in Calc I, II, and Diff Eq.

It's the hydraulics and pneumatics that's pissing me off.

Aaaah, that's an engineering course. :-P

In all honesty, those types of courses are supposed to be THAT hard.

Good luck! ;-)

The worst part about it? I've already taken this class, but for some reason, it didn't transfer.

I can understand the course being hard, but it wouldn't be as hard if the teacher actually taught.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no excuse for it. I'm paying* good money to learn this material. Why would I pay for it if I could just read it out of a book?

*I'm only partially paying for it since UR is covering most of it.
