I'll post this up here since I haven't gotten any responses from the amateur photography community that I'm in.

Kim recently suggested printing my pictures and framing them and selling them.

I'm wondering if there's anyone here that has done this and how you went about doing it without a huge initial investment.

Any tips/pointers? What about copyright issues as far as people steeling your prints?

Well, I haven't sold any of mine yet (the ultimate goal is to build up a portfolio, then try to get a booth at something like Corn Hill), but in order to reduce some of the overhead, shop around. For printing, try websites like PhotoWorks, dotPhoto and Winkflash - go onto the forums at SlickDeals and search for codes/coupons. For frames, Wal-Mart and A.C. Moore are your best bets.

Do you have a Photobucket or a Flickr for your photos? I'd love to take a look at them again.

All of my pictures are in my LJ scrap book.

Most of them aren't worth selling (just playing around), but some of them are pretty good, at least for computer wallpapers. lol.

It's kind of interesting. You can see my learning progression through all the pictures.

If we can build enough of a portfolio, there's alreays the possibility of splitting a booth between you and I.

It's certainly something to consider.

I'm also (very slowly) trying to work on building a website, so I could showcase some of your better photos there too, if you like.

I don't see a problem with that. I don't know that many of them are worth sharing, but I have a couple that I get lucky on from time to time (Kim yells at me when I say that. She seems to think I know what I'm doing. LOL)

What camera do you have, BTW?

And actually, a LOT of photos of mine have actually been fixed up with Photoshop, but I've been using PS for years and pretty much taught myself how to work it.

I've got a Canon A520. A decent camera for the money, but nowhere near a professional camera (although once I learn how to do this stuff, I'd LOVE to get a digital SLR).

Very cool.

I'd love a DSLR myself, but I should actually LEARN some photography fundamentals first.

I'll have to ask my friend LuAnn ([livejournal.com profile] whiskeygirl_no7) where she sells hers. She takes pix & sells them.
