Stonybrook is awesome, I thought of it while driving down to Geneseo yesterday. BTW - could you reccommend some hiking boots to me? I need to pick up a pair in a week or so and I'm really clueless.
I've had two pairs of Vasque boots. Those were pretty good. I've got a pair of Asolos now that I really like.
In all reality, fit is more important than brand. I suggest going to EMS to get boots because they have the set up to really test tem out (an incline used to see how much your feet will move). They also allow you to return the boots if you wear them for while and they don't fit once they're broken in (wear them around inside for a while to keep them clean).
It's in Marketplace Mall. It's the only "real" outdoors store that I know of to get boots from people who know what they're talking about.
You're looking at a minimum of $100, but your feet will thank you. I also recommend getting a couple pairs of polypropelene (or however you spell it) socks as well as a couple good pairs of hiking socks (smart wool or similar). Again, your feet will thank you.
That's what I've been told. I may be heading up to the ADKs in August and I've been instructed that I may not be taken if I do not have "proper footwear". Grrr.
And to go along with the proper footwear, make sure you wear the boots for a good week or so so that they're broken in. Broken record: Your feet will thank you.
