Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Got to work late today.

Ok [livejournal.com profile] highrider...something for YOU to laugh at.

My truck wouldn't start!

Well, I got it to start while I was sitting in my driveway. Stupid me then drove to Tops and SHUT IT OFF. DOH! With all the rain we had over the weekend, the distributor got a tad wet. Fortunately my dad was driving out to Buffalo today, so he was still in the area. I called him up and he swung by Tops to give me a hand. He watched while I turned my truck over, and saw a pretty nice light show. Apparently I have a cracked distributor cap, so when it gets wet, it doesn't like to run very well. I know what I'm doing at lunch today!

Fortunately, I was only 10 minutes late.

I tried to use my AAA Plus membership on someone else's car but they wouldn't let me.

It was early, but now that I know...I will keep that in the memory banks.

I now have a lunch time project. New cap and rotor (probably don't need the rotor, but while I've got it apart, might as well!).

I thought it was tied to the driver, not the car?

Ive done it several times.:) I don't know why they wouldn't let you. Just don't tell them you are not with the car. It can be used on any vehicle

If it were tied to the driver, they wouldn't ask you your model / license plate # when you register your car with AAA. The DMV is tied to the driver, the AAA is automotive and tied to the vehicle.

Well, the DMV is tied to both.

I don't have AAA, so I only know what I've been told by others.

If you cheat the system, you tie it to the driver. If you have good ethics, you tie it to your vehicle.

Hmm. I have in the past driven a vehicl registered to my father for long periods and have never had a problem with AAA, although I dont use the service often. Honestly I don't think it is a question of ethics. Regardless of what vehicle you are driving the service covers you, the driver.:) If it didn't it would say right on your card what vehicle it was for and at that point no one would use it anymore.

Call them and ask them if you can use it for your friend's cars. Then post their reply.

AAA provides coverage for the stranded member, not the vehicle. This means that as a member of AAA you're covered in any eligible vehicle, whether or not it's the one you own. Even if you're not the driver!

I wouldn't laugh at you Jeff. Maybe tease you a little. ;)

I actually just replaced my cap & rotor in the fall as a PM @100K. Did the plugs at the same time too. Then I got stuck a few days later with a rough running truck on the thruway. Apparaently the guy didn't push one of the boots all the way on and it came loose from the plug. Guess I should have just done the job myself.

I was going to explain the AAA benefit, but Chris has already taken care of that. I use it just because it's so much easier to call one # when you have a problem and you're out of town in an area you don't know well.

Weird, they must have changed the policy from a decade ago... lol. I swear I remember calling back in 1995 and they said that they don't cover someone else's car. Hmmmm.... maybe I was just high at the time.

Haha. Anything is possible, and btw, I wasn't trying to be a know it all.:)
I have used it 2 times for an ex's vehicle, about 3yrs ago. Thankfully I have only had to use it once myself since. Dead battery, in June in the driveway after I had been waxing my car for 2hrs with the radio on.
