Update

I know I didn't post anything about this initally, but this is what I've been dealing with since Saturday.

Saturday morning, my mom took my dad into the ER for severe stomach pains (among other symptoms).

After tests throughout Saturday and Sunday, it was determined that he had gallstones, jaundice (inflamed liver), an infected and inflamed gallbladder, and a case of panreatitis (inflamed pancreas).

He went in to have the gallstone removed today, and with minor complications (slight bleeding from an incision during the endoscopy), the stone was removed (appox. 1cm across).

At some point tomorrow, he's having his gallbladder removed. We don't know when, but we've got our fingers crossed that it will actually happen tomorrow (originally was supposed to get done on Satuday, then got pushed to Monday, then to today, now tomorrow).

I'm drained, both physically, and emotionally.

Back to the hospital tomorrow.

On a lighter note, I pulled the trigger and bought a new motorcycle on Saturday. Now all I need to do is find a ride over to pick it up! (Chris, this is the favor I had mentioned) I might be able to get my mom to take me over, but we dont' know for sure what's going to happen.

I feel for you man. My dad has had 5 heart attacks in the last 17 years. In 1987 he even had a quintiple bypass surgery done.

Just found otu this morning that they're sending him home today and sending him to Rochester General tomorrow to have the thing removed. I'm so pissed off at Highland hospital right now...

Just found out this morning that he's coming home today. And we have to take him to a different hospital tomorrow to have the thing removed. This is such bullshit.

Highland doesn't have the budget. Don't be pissed at Highland, be pissed at Strong. Strong makes all the major decisions since they are the parent hospital.

It's more a matter of the Doc's schedule, but I guess that can relate back to Strong not providing enough money for another doctor. But my mom talked to a doctor on the floor this morning, and she said that if he was still in a serious condition, they wouldn't be sending him home. Only time will tell now.

Having had my gall bladder removed in April, I know whereof I speak.

First of all, I'm surprised they just took the stone out and not the whole gall bladder when they did the first procedure. Admittedly, I don't know your father's exact condition at the time, but the treatment for gallstones presenting symptoms is to take the gall bladder out. Now if his pain was severe enough, they probably did what they did for Ashcroft when he had his gall bladder out: made him comfortable and when he was stable, then perform the procedure.

In my case, the procedure was very simple. Knocked out then awake 3 hours later. I had a complicating factor and expected to have a big-ass scar, but I was able to have it done laparoscopically, and I've got a couple of small scars and pokes.

Many wishes for a speedy recovery after the second procedure.

Yeah, he was in pretty bad shape. He had a gallstone stuck in the common duct, which was causing a bunch of other problems. He's actually home right now, fixin' to go back tomorrow to have the gallbladder removed.
