Feb. 26th, 2004 08:07 amScouts went well last night.
We have a new scoutmaster, who is out of town for work quite a bit, so more is asked of the assistant scoutmasters in order to get things done and keep things moving "smoothly" (as smoothly as things in scouting goes anyway).
Last night was one of these out of town experiences. It was also a court of honor (awards night sort of thing). Fortunately, one of the boys was working toward his communications merit badge, and running a program is one of the requirements, so for the most part, we got to sit back and watch. It went really well, and Charlie did a great job. (Charlie is the penguin boy from summer rec oh so many years ago).
After the meeting, I got to talk with a rather large number of parents and a couple of the committee members in getting up to speed on what's going on, and getting them up to speed on the scoutmaster transition as well. It was mentioned that emails to my dad were getting bounced back, and one father asked for directions to the camp out this weekend. Both received emails when I got home regarding these issues.
I took control, and was very assertive and confident. I never once thought about it until I got home and was talking to a very lovely woman *wink Shell wink*, and it just hit me. I was an adult and took the responsibility of making sure everything got done. Which is kind of funny because the other ASM is older than my dad. Oh well...sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do.
That is all for now...I feel accomplished and quite good about what I've done. Scott being out of town quite a bit could be just what I need to get my head out of my ass.
